Still have questions?
Where is the park?
Cherokee Nation Sallisaw Creek Park is located in the lush landscapes of Eastern Oklahoma, just 30 minutes east of Fort Smith and 1 hour from Tahlequah, the capitol of Cherokee Nation.
Is the park open to the public?
Yes—no matter where you call home, all respectful visitors are welcome at Cherokee Nation Sallisaw Creek Park.
What is the nearest airport?
Fort Smith (a 30-minute drive) has a small regional airport, or Tulsa (a 1.5-hour drive) and Oklahoma City (a 2-hour drive) both have international airports. There is a municipal airport in Sallisaw (a 10-minute drive).
Are there different rules/laws within Cherokee Nation that I should be aware of?
The park is owned by the Cherokee Nation, and all applicable Cherokee Nation laws apply to visitors. Cherokee Nation wildlife laws and regulations apply to tribal citizens visiting the park. Oklahoma wildlife laws apply to non-tribal citizens.
Is there wildlife I should be aware of?
Though there are black bears in nearby counties, they are not a problem we have encountered in the park. We do have plenty of raccoons, squirrels, deer, snakes and armadillos, so you should make sure that trash is always secured in bins, never feed wildlife, follow all posted speed limits in the park, and keep all wild animals at a respectful distance. For more information on the animals you are most likely to encounter in the park, please visit our Wildlife & Nature page.
Are pets allowed in the park?
Yes, pets are allowed in RV spots. Pets must be leashed when outside and owners must pick up after their pets. No pets are allowed in the cabins except service animals.
What are the fishing regulations in the park/on the reservoir?
Please visit the Cherokee Nation Wildlife Conservation or the Oklahoma Wildlife Conservation Page for more information. Please note the fishing pond is catch and release.
Is the park wheelchair accessible?
Please check with the park to confirm the accessibility of the individual RV site or cabin to determine accessibility.
Are there any nearby attractions?

You'll find museums, art galleries, markets, historical sites and the nearby Cherokee Casino for a little fun and to dance with chance. Visit our Local Attractions page for more details.
Can I cancel or modify cabin & camping reservations?
